Can't record sound.

I have a :
Celeron-333
128MB RAM
6.4 GB HDD
Genius(ISA) Sound Card
Win98-SE SYSTEM.
When i try recording my voice using Windows Sound Recorder i could not hear the recorded sound. however, if i increase the volume to Maximum, a very dim voice can be heard by placing my ear next to the speakers.
Once i installed Win-ME; the recorded sound then was a little better.

i don't have separate driver for my sound card and Windows itself finds driver while installation.
Can anyone help me?

It may be that the driver that Windows finds only offers some basic funtionality and not the full features. Try to find the actual drivers for your sound card.

Is the Microphone muted? Check, in advanced volume control.
