I am running Windows XP Pro and as the computer is sitting and I am not doing anything, the computer constantly accesses the hard drive.

I know there are some things that it is supposed to be doing, but it is driving me crazy to sit here and hear it accessing the hard drive.

lets narrow a few things...
Go to the control panel, double click fast find and stop the processand delete the logs.

What size HDD?
how much ramm do you have?
have you run scan disk and defrag?
Have you checked for Virilli and trojans, spyware?
what do you have in start-up?
and what is running in the back ground?

In XP one of the things that can cause hard drive access is the Indexing service...

Go to the Search and then options and disable the Indexing service and see if the cuts down on the access.

Sorry for the delay, I think the indexing was most of the problem. I think it is the windows update doing some of ot too, seems like there is an update daily.

Thanks for the replies.
