For a good guide to what can be killed in XP, visit Blackviper's site (http://www.blackviper.com/). Very good information and how-to.

To uninstall windows messenger, click start > run > type RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove click OK. It's gone. :)

If you want to run msconfig in XP, click Start > Run > type in msconfig > click ok

If you want to run msconfig in w2k you will have to install it. You can get it HERE (http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Msconfig.htm) .

Steve, are you maybe confusing Windows Messenger with MS Messenger (the Internet MSN thing)?

To disable Windows Messenger, you disable the Messenger service in the 'Services' applet.

Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Services

hmmmm...could be.

When I wanted to remove "Windows Messenger" from my XP install, that is the method I used. You know, in the programs list, where it said "Windows Messenger"???

EDIT: Just to check, I just went to my laptop with XP Home on it. Yup. If you want to uninstall "Windows Messenger" that's the way to do it. If you just want to disable it going to "services" works.
