I was reading one of MJC's posts about Malware and got to thinking about the security of my P2P software while Im online. I use Kazaa media desktop (reluctantly) for my P2P and was wondering if I am left vulnerable when online even when I am not using Kazaa. They apparently share one specific folder on your desktop with about a zillion other downloaders. Can anyone tell me of any threats specifically relatted to Kazaa and maybe how to patch them.
Virus, RAT (remote access trojan), RIAA, spyware (tracking spyware that is active even when not using KaZaa), ummm...if I think about is I t could probably come up with a few more.....
The two biggest ones are spyware and trojans.
Add/remove programs follwed by SpywareSearch and Destroy, AV scan and an AT scan.
Then if you must share try one of the spy-free ones like WinMX (also less vulnerable to other nasties, for the time being).

Some people who say they have Kazaa Lite have also had trouble with spyware and other malware. It is not clear why, but it seems likely that it at least leaves you more open. People here have said that WinMX is generally safer, although any file sharing software is likely to have some risk with it.
