HELP!!! The @#!$%~^! (Blue) screen of DEATH!!!

Yesterday my computer started giving me the blue screen error message.
This is the message it gave: Fatal error blablabla at 0028:C000788E in VXD VMM(01)+0000688E...
After that I'm unable to do anything but reboot or shutdown.

It did it once when Win98 started; it did it when I was running my AVG AV; it did it when I was defragmenting my drives (in so-called Safe Mode).
What is that error about? Any1 can help me?


About my PC:
I have a Compaq 500MHz with a 20GB HDD with Win98 only on it.

Windows does not, itself, cause these errors, but merely reports them. However, Windows’ memory handling capabilities, interacting with other programs, may be what causes the specific problem. Often, the cause will be a problem with physical RAM; another hardware problem; damaged or missing files; or a damaged Registry.These errors are difficult to trace..I would suggest searching M$ knowledge base to see if you can pinpoint it.

Just because they're easy to do...I'd run your HardDrive diagnostics. You can download these from the HDD manufacturer's site.

Also run a Memory Tester.
