My New Athlon 1.4 is running at 140+F. I didnt let it get any hotter then that. Right now i have a little desk fan blowing into the case(now im sweating my balls off), its cooling it down to 130F. i never would have thought anything of it until one of my friends told me it was too hot. If it is too hot what can i do to cool it down the right way?? Ill die along with this CPU if i over heat it.

That is pretty hot..., theoretically, you should be ok at 140 (60C) but I don't know anybody who would recommend it...
Some things to consider:
1) how hot is the room you're in? (if it's 100 degrees in your house, the chip's gonna run hot)
2) did you use hs paste (a very thin layer) netween the hs and the cpu?
3) is the cpu voltage set correctly? (if it's too high the cpu will run hotter)
4) you are using a hs with a fam attached to it, right?
5) is the hs attached properly? (flat and contacting the whole cpu die)
If you did everything correctly and it still runs that hot, I would look into a better hs/fan...
Check out this article for info on some:

Actually the ATHlon is rated to 90* C ( about 220*F ) but in reality you'd want to keep it around 30*-50*C ( 90*F to 120*F )-most average Athlons run about 55-60*C ( right at the 140*F you've reported ) so you're not in any danger. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
However, if you wish to cool it further, swifttek makes one of the best fan/heatsink combo ( my bird runs at about 36*C ( about 97*F ) steady-i haven't overclocked it. ) Thsi is a very sensitive job though( if you mess up your processor, you've pooched your system! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif ) so unless you feel comfortable messing around with the innards of your PC i would suggest you find someone who has a lot of experiance to do this for you.
luck. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
