System restore will not work at times. In fact, since I reinstalled windows it seems not be be working at all. I am able to create restore points but when I try to restore to an earlier time it tells me that no changes have been made to my computer and that it cannot restore. Why and how do I fix it?

I can't remember if XP has a restore feature or not. I have this link on ME's Restore and there is a long list of links for troubleshooting at the bottom.

www.windows-help.net/windowsMe/system-restore-pf.htm (http://www.windows-help.net/windowsMe/system-restore-pf.htm)

If you don't have ME, post back with more info.

Why do you want to restore the system?

System restore, AFAIK, can only undo alterations/deletions to your system. If nothing has changed since the restore point was set, then there is nothing for it to do, and the message you get makes sense.

Don't know how to establish for sure if it is working, and any attempt to do so could be risking your data, as you would need to alter the system, and then see if restore would work. If you try it, I hope you have backups!

It sounds as though the SR file store may be corrupted. You can fix this by turning off System Restore, rebooting, turning it on and rebooting again.Start\Control Panel\System\System Restore, select "Turn off System Restore"on all drives, reboot, deselect the option and reboot. ***NOTE: the above will delete all restore points but they are not working at this time anyway.

If this doesn't help then go to the link above and do some troubleshooting procedures
