I put a SoundBlaster PCI128 in a computer that did not have a sound card before. It is a 233mhz pc with 96mb RAM. The sound card is connected to the cdrom but there is no sound. All the drivers loaded with teh install program. I checked the Windows setup and the Volulme control is checked but there is no volume control showing in the task bar. I uninstalled the card and then reinstalled with no change. It has to be a windows problem but I don't know what to look for. I did check multimedia in control panel and everything seems to be okay there. A cd The cd player shows a cd playing but no sound. I tried some external speakers but that wasn't the answer.:(

Hi there Jayjr
Until someone else comes along try this.
Go into the control panel and click onto "Audio devices".
Here you will see a box that you can tick to insert icon to task bar.
You will also see a box that allows you to Mute the sound. If there is a tick in that de-select it.
Also if that does not work, try going into device manager and see if there are any conflicts with your Audio/Multimedia settings there. If there are, Remove all instances of audio showing and then reboot computer. System should then find and re-install.

Hello JayJr.
If using Windows 98
Go to:
“Start>Help>Sound Troubleshooting” [and then “Volume Control”]
My “Volume Control” executable is at “c:\Windows\sndvol32.exe”.
Use the “Find” facility to look for “*.exe” [all “.exe” files] and seek & find your “Volume Control” executable file and run it.
If it is not there it is not installed.
You say the CD-ROM is connected, but is the small sound cable connected in addition to the power and signal cables?
