When you are booting, try pressing F8 repeatedly and see if it gives you options for boot. If it does, I would select Safe Mode and try to do some problem solving if it lets you into Windoze. If it doesn't, I would type WIN at the C: prompt and hit enter. This should boot you into Windows unless something else is wrong. Again, do some problem solving once you are there. I would check msconfig to make sure you don't have booting to DOS selected.
You could check in BIOS to make sure the boot order includes going to hard drive first of second, but it doesn't sound like that kind of a problem.
Type EXIT at the prompt......

Hello Doggonenut,
If F8 won't get you into BIOS then try tapping the "Delete" key while booting...........

F8 won't get you into BIOS, it is to get the boot menu....
HP computers usually use f1 for BIOS, but you are stuck in DOS mode, if exit doesn't get you back to Windows, search for a file call DOSSTART.bat and rename it DOSSTART.old, then reboot.

thanks for all the input, i couldnt get much to happen, but i did manage to get into bios or something, however i couldnt really make heads or tails of what it was saying about dos, luckily i came up with my recovery disk, popped it in and reloaded windows, pain in the rear but it worked.
c:>thanks for all your help:D
Did you try typing exit at the DOS prompt?
Did you search for the file DOSSTART.BAT?
