Hi,
I've just about finished building my 1st computer. The Bios is set up and all the necessary bells and whistles seem to be going off when they should. I already have an ageing Pentium 2 450MHz on which is loaded Windows XP(yes it creaks and groans but it gets there!) I would like to use the same installation disc to load up my new computer. However I am sure that 'big brother Microsoft' will have invented some chip that stops me doing that.

Can anyone tell me where I stand with this? Will networking the two make any difference? Or will I have to go out and buy XP Home again:(

Thanks

Yes, if you want to run XP Home on that new machine.

If you can convince MS that you will not use that older computer again and you have another version of Windoze you can install on it, you can use your current copy of XP on the new system. The thing is that MS only allows XP to be used on one system per license. Another option would be to buy another license from MS and I believe that will cost you less than buying a new copy.

Looks like you get 15% off for a license rather than a full version:

You may be better off buying an OEM version for about $100...

If you want to buck MS and use the same license on both computers, just make sure you never take the old computer online and don't network it with the new one.....
