Hello there.
How can I get this Yahoo messenger off my friends laptop w/WinME.
I've tried the Add/Remove program and the Uninstaller that came with Yahoo Messenger. But it says it “Could not open INSTALL.LOG file”.
Should I try using a third party uninstaller.

was the program still running when you tried the uninstall? did you shut it off everywhere?
Go to your desktop and click on My Computer.
Click on C: drive.
Go to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\.
Highlight the Messenger folder and press the Delete key on your keyboard.
if that doesn't work then re-down load and start again
Install.log is the file where the info for what changes where made during the install is kept, if it is damaged, moved, etc then the uninstaller won't work. The usual fix is to reinstall the program over top of the existing install and then run the uninstaller imediately afterwards.

Is it okay to delete the folder? That won't mess things up will it?
As far as I can tell it's not running at all. I don't see it in the Close Program or in the Start up in the System Configuration Utility.
The Yahoo Messenger came with this Laptop. I've tried using the Recovery Disk to reinstall it but don't see it in the list. It's not giving us any problems, she's not using it and said that I could uninstall it. I just reformatted and restored the OS and it's working like new and don't want to mess things up. I guess she'll just have to live with it. It's not starting up with the system so it's not using system resources just storage space, no biggie.

Okay, I downloaded the Yahoo Messenger and installed/uninstalled it but still it remained in the Add/Remove programs. So I went into the Programs folder and deleted the whole Yahoo folder. then went back into the Add/Remove programs and it removed it and now it's gone. Thanks for the help.:)

You may be haunted by the return of pieces of it. It is generally not a good idea to simply delete while any sign of it shows up in Add/Remove Programs since that usually means that parts of it are still scattered around the system. If you do run into it again, I would reinstall it and then boot into Safe Mode. Use Add/Remove Programs in Safe Mode and it should get it all out. You could also install a program like CleanSweep or other clean erase program before reinstalling it so that you can make sure that it is all thoroughly removed.
