Hi,
I am the system administrator of my home computer and recently I found an error message mysteriously coming up which prevented my from accessing my internet options from my browser. I did a search on google an download a small signature file which just changed a registry value of nobrowser in the registry from a 0 to 1 or somethinng and that fixed it. I'm wondering how this error happened in the first place???

Ok, Everythings fixed now. What happened was when I downloaded Spybot search and destroys new Immunization, it had checked lock IE start page against user changes, and lock IE start page from being opened in control panel. At least I know what those little checked boxes do now!!

Spybot is a sore subject with me lately...In fact, I just got rid of it after being a faithful Spybot user.
I Just use Adaware 6 (Which got very good reviews in PCWorld recently), along with some other utilities- Including some I just run off the CD rather than install them.
It all started with the new "immunization" feature you mentioned. I upgraded mine from within the program to 1.2 and found my help file was missing. Turns out the only way to get it was to un-install the program and re-install. (No biggie...But still, this is not the first time they have released the "latest and greatest" complete with bugs.)
The last one, while silly, was downloading "skins". Anyway, getting rid of the program and all of its remnants for some reason turned out to be a nightmare...Won't bore you with the details, but I had never had that problem before.
Seems to me, they aren't fully testing their program updates before releasing them. And with the changes it can make with your computer, I think they should take it a little more seriously. (Well, it does state very clearly at the top of the program "use at your own risk".)
The folks at Adaware seem to be right on top of things...New Reference files almost evey other day. I also found that after running the latest Adaware, there was nothing left for spbot to find, so the need to have both was becoming less important. (I know Spybot has some extra features, hence the use of some other programs along with Adaware.)
Geesh...Sorry, seem to be rambling. And this is only my humble opinion of course!

Does the immunization or anything else on spybot stop bring up errors when I try to access some .pdf files or in this case an exe file located at: http://www.tdhq.net/voodoo/v3/v3-w2k-xp-1.09-beta10.exe ??
It says HTTP 403 Access denied, but when u turn off the "show friendly URL messages in advanced internet settings" it just comes up with Object blocked. What could be causing this? I have zone alarm pro, spybot search and destroy and AVG anti-virus on my system.
All SSD when it locks the IE home is set a bit in the registry to 1 (enabled), it is a restriction that is already built into IE. It can be turned on with System Policy editor also.
