Ive just tried to open Kazaalite, and I'm getting a box pop up when I double click on the Kazaalite icon saying:-

"PE-SHIELD:HEURISTIC VIRUS ALERT

File was altered.Maybe it is infected by a virus"

What is that all about?. I dont even have any Anti-Virus software running?.

How do I fix this?.

Not really sure,, I wouldn't have anything with the name kazaa

But I would imaging it is part of a filtering prog.for detecting Back doors and Viruses Any time you use file sharing NOT a good idea to turn off AV

Apparently:
PE-Shield v 0.2a2
Is a "Win32 Executable File Encrypter";
A tool used by "Crackers".

How would that have gotten onto my system?.

I havent downloaded anything like that, and I havent a clue about "cracking"!!!!.

Any ideas?. More to the point, how can I get rid of it?.

PE-SHIELD is a packing tool yes I agree it can be used by crackers but don't know where the "v 0.2a2" came into play? "heuristic technology" is usually part of a virus scanner usually dealing with macros.Don't know what files you have down loaded maybe someone has put in a back door or it's part of a scanning engine? Have you run a trojan scan and a virus scan? Did you just down load Kazaa?

Ive just reformatted and reinstalled Windows, and was in the process of putting everything back on.

I've ran a scan for Trojans with "The Cleaner", and it came up with nothing. Havent done a Virus scan yet with AVG.

The Kazaalite I installed , was the same one I've been using for a while, I installed it from backup discs that I made prior to reformatting.

I use Kazaa Lite too, and have gotten at least two viruses from it. Whatever you do, ALWAYS RUN AN ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM when you are using Kazaa. I think it's the easiest way to get a virus. That being said, I still use it, I just update my anti-virus regularly.
