I have a Win 98 system. At some point Quicktime became my graphics viewer, I'm not sure how or why. I looked in Accessories, and Paint is not even there?? I'm not delighted with QT, how do I get Paint back, or another viewer of choice?
Thanks.

I think this will work, although I am not sure if it does on Win98:
Open Windows Explorer and pick a file of the type you want, right click and go to Open With. It will give you a choice of programs or to choose the program you want, so click on that. Pick the one you want and make sure you specify to always use it in the little check box....

If the method give by budfred doesn't work, then you need to associate the file extensions with the program you want to use.
To do this, in Win98, open a window in "My computer". Click on the View button, and select folder options. Click on the "file types" tab.
This displays a list of "registered" file types. Find the extension you want to edit - JPG/GIF/TIF/ Whatever. Select it, and click on the edit button. In the displayed list, select the action, and click edit. Browse to find the application you want to use, and OK your way out. Repeat for each file type.

Go to the run box and enter mspaint into it. If paint is installed this will open it even if the shortcut has gone missing from accessories.
To reinstall it go to Add/Remove and choose Windows components. Find accessories and if paint is checked then uncheck it and reboot. Return and check it to reinstall it. That should get it back into the accessories folder.
Doing the above however is unlikely to restore the file associations, which were probably "hijacked" when you installed quicktime. You can change the file associations so that paint opens each individual file extension that you wish to use at MyComputer<>Tools<>FolderOptions<>FileTypes or you can choose OpenWith from a right click on the relevant file (jpg, bmp and so on) and choose paint but also ensure you select to "always use this program to open the file" and this will change the file association for you.
he he David; similar thoughts but you were too quick for me!!

Well, it's never quite as easy as it should be. Sure enough, paint has gone missing. When I tried to reinstall it, Windows wanted my Win 98 disk to go find it from. A put the CD in, but it says it can't find it on the disk. Last time I did something similar the needed file was hidden in one of the compressed "cab" files? Anyone know where to find Paint on the Win 98 2nd ed CD?
Also, isn't there another program in Windows for graphics viewing? Photo Editor? That's what I use on my laptop at work. Is that on the Win98 CD, or downloadable from the microsoft website?

It is a basic part of Windoze, so it should install using Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup. If it doesn't, there may be something else wrong.
