Hello everybody:

I installed a Biostar M6VLR Motherboard with an
integrated sound chip (Via Sound System).
I installed the audio drivers, resolved all
the conflicts ( IRQ, ports, etc.), and enabled
the SoundBlaster legacy option in BIOS setup.

All is functioning, but......in DOS mode, even
if I can hear the SoundBlaster effects in the
games, I can't hear ANY music.

Quite strange seems to me...
I enabled "MUSIC" and "SPECIAL FX" in the
DOS games Setup (when possible), but this
was not a remedy.

In Win95 all is O.K.
Please remember: DOS Sound Blaster FX's all O.K.,
only MUSIC is always dead.
And this is for ALL my old DOS games...

Any clues ?

System:
Celeron 1.1 GHz.
256 Mb. RAM
Windows 95
Sound integrated chip (in VIA VT82C686B chipset).

Thanks a lot ! ! !

Is there supposed to be music in these games? Are you playing them in Windows 95?

In 98 you can adjust things in 'Volume Control' which has many sliders and Wave being one of them. Maybe if 95 has it you might find something in there muted or slid down.

If you right click on the speaker icon it will open from there. Then click options and you can enable more sliders in recording and playback.

Not sure if this is what you'll need.

I'd be happy to help if I knew how, but I am afraid this is something I don't know much about. If I had the problem I would simply try checking every sound setting I could find to make sure they are all enabled and if it still didn't work, I would assume it is a problem with trying to run DOS programs on Windoze....

Thanks to all of you folks who
are trying to help me.

Yes, the games in fact have music and
it played fine on my earlier PC
(200 MHz Pentium MMX and Avance ALS100+
sound card ISA, very good an simple this one !!!).

But my present PC has "sound integrated"
chip, a little crappy (excuse me).

And yes, I played combinations of controls
in Windows sound player, but with no results.
Of course the games are played in DOS mode
(restarted on full secreen from Windows 95).
And, music is enabled in setup for every game
(where available).

Thanks again:

Fabrizio.
