I have a HP Pavillion 6642F with a crystal audio codec sound card. I have been struggling to play some old dos games. I got a cpu slower to fix runtime errors then ran into the issue that my soundcard would not let the games run. I downloaded an audio update from HP with new drivers. Now my card shows up as a Crystal WDM Audio Codec and it works for the dos games as well now. But although the sound works in the dos games it also makes static popping sounds(only in dos games, windows is fine). Im very happy that I can finally just play these games. However if there is a quick fix for the static sounds that would be great. Any feedback on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hello el_gringo_mi,
Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!
It appears from your description that the problem appears with all DOS games, is this true?
Which operating system are you using?
When you check Device Manager do you have any type of "emulation" listed under Sound, Video, Game Controllers?
You might want to have a look here: http://www.rit.edu/~jpw9607/sblivesetup.htm

I am running Win98SE and yes all dos games seem to do this. Here is a listing of everything under sound video and game controllers; Crystal WDM Audio Codec, Gameport Joystick and MPU-401 Compatable.
