I'm always a little wary of programs of this type. Has anyone used 'em?
I am running XP Home.

I haven't used them, but I would urge you to read the license agreement carefully before installing and I would run Spybot/AdAware as soon as I had installed them and before running. The fact that they make such a big point of being FREE makes me suspicious that they may contain spyware or adware.

They are just Batch files, so you can open them with an editor and see what they do before running them. Just note that some are for Windows 98. They are from Fred Langa (http://www.langa.com/about_fred.htm), a well- known computer author, but play it safe and make your backups first :)

Anything from Fred Langa is usually safe to use and run. As Reid says open with notpad first to see if they are relevant to you. This is the instructions Fred gives

Fred is one of the Good guys...

And yes, I have used them, they do a good job of cleaning up the mess that IE invariably leaves behind.

I used them in 9x, not sure how well they behave in XP.

How do these Langa's things compare with, e.g., EasyCleaner? (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,16180,00.asp)

My experiences from the EasyCleaner are good.

They are a little more targetted than EasyCleaner...more like the usage tracks of Spybot.
