CD Roms and Head phones

My sound works fine but would like to play cds with using the head phones and I am unable to do this.
I have a plug in in the front of my CD rom.
How can I get it to work?
I also have a new computer with no speakers attached to it and I can`t hear any music with my head phones either.
Jus wondering if I have to do something to get it to work with head phones. Thanks

Try right clicking the speaker on your lower right task bar. Try Options>Properties> and check to see if the CD Audio is checked. This will then get you a volume control.

Still doesn`t work got it working on the new computer just checked the CD in multimedia and checked the box enable digital audio CD and now it works can not do that with this one as it is not open. I had it working once when I shut off the speakers but can`t get it to work now. I tried what you said and it was already checked

And you did check to make sure that it was not muted?

Thanks it worked it was windows media player which prevented it from working used another one and it worked fine. Thanks for all your help.
