Hi and Welcome,
Go to Start/Run and type "msconfig", without the quotes. The system configuration utility will load. Click on the far right tab, can't remember what it's labeled. There you will see all the programs that load at startup. The listings sometimes only refer to an .exe file, so look for the one that's related to your problem program. Uncheck the little box beside it. You will have to restart your computer. It shouldn't load after that.
There are three or four programs that you should leave alone though. They are RegScan, SysTray, Load Power Profile and Task Monitor.
Good luck. Post back if you have further questions.

Here (http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Window_memory.htm) is a site that has a pretty comprehensive list of what can be running at startup, what it is and whether or not it is really needed.
