hi all

i wonder if anyone can help me i have been given a monitor when i turned it on i got a burning smell and then smoke started coming out the back when i turned it of i opened it up to find that a couple of the resistor had burnt out the only proplem is that as they have burnt out i dont know what colours they where and i would like to find the schematics for but the monitor has no manufacturers name all it has on the back is x-10d

It is not advisable to even attempt to find out, there is more wrong with it besides "a couple of burnt resistors". Besides it is incredibly dangerous to be mucking around inside a monitor. The capacitors and CRT can hold a lethal charge for a long time.

Listen to mjc. If you don't know what you're doing, stay out of a monitor's insides. Don't try to learn on the fly. If you do, you might just learn from the flyback transformer that a monitor that has been unplugged for three years could still hold enough voltage to kill you.
