After 8 years of renting for me, and about 5 years for my wife, we are proud homeowners! Just got done with closing about an hour ago. Never seen so many signatures required in my life!
Can't wait to get out of work and get a load or two moved over. Can't wait for the weather to warm up and get in the pool!
House warming gifts can be sent to the address to the left. ;) :D

Congradulations!
Still trying to make that step ourselves. When you add up all the rent my family has paid over the years...
Whats the zip code for the mind of god? Your present keeps coming back undeliverable!
Enjoy!

Well you see I mailed you a house warming gift and it was returned to me by the USPS saying address unknown. Do you know why this could be?;)
I am sorry to say I won't be owning a home for another 15 years or so :(
Congratulations!

Boy...Your wife will be very happy with her "landlord".
Mine is always complaining that hers doesn't get to the repairs fast enough! :(
(Don't dare tell her to see if she can find a better one!) :D

Thanks for all the nice responses! :D
Thank goodness I've got a dad who made me give him a hand with minor house repairs when I was a kid. I learned a few things passing him tools and holding boards while he cut them!

Congratulation Pentachris. Great feeling when you close the door on the first night and know that "IT's Mine"
By the way as for liking the landlord just remember that you can never complain to him when something is wrong as he will not listen. ;)

I want to add my Congratulations too, pentachris. I didn't post on this before because I was a bit embarrassed about how very long it took us to get into my first home, but hey, have one now. The landlord does his best to keep up with stuff, and I have no complaints, but I have to say that there are a few small disadvantages. Things that I thought were "way cool" about New Mexico when I moved here from Texas, like hailstorms in August, are a lot "cooler" (lol) when it's not "your" house and trees the hail is dropping on.:D And the spring WINDS were less appalling when it wasn't "our" roof groaning and trying to blow off. We got really tired of fetching shingles back from the yard and down the road, and put on an enameled metal roof..but I still worry in the spring, and the gutters do tend to fly off sometimes still. And, one is always three or four chores behind...but wouldn't have it any other way now. So, back to "Congratulations" and may your new home be blessed with much happiness for many years to come.

Add my congrats to the pile too, pentachris. It's a good feeling, owning your own home. Even better, IMHO, is the day you finally pay off the mortgage! Managed that about 5 years ago, and it's great!!

Congrats,
Home owning is great and I know you will enjoy it. Good luck with the pool also, my favorite part.
We reached the point that we sold our house and moved into a large condo, I do miss the house, [Naaaa]

Hey I have taken a resentment. The only pool I have is the one under the sink where the pipe leaks. Do you think it would do any good to complain to the landlord? :D

Yes, our closing agent was very nice. And very expeditious - she had done over 60 closings that month!
I found this site (http://www.juggling.org/bin/un.cgi/map-find) and, as best I can tell, (30.3,-87.8) is somewhere in the Mobile Bay. Although the manner in which I determined that isn't really precise. Do you live in Gulf Shores?

wow pentachris you got it too! Another neighbor!! Yes Gulf Shores, the snowbird capital of the world, where we do have terrorists down here (well that is what we call tourists anyway) and them dang no seeums and yellow flies!!!
60 closings in one month, that is a lot of closings!!! We are doing a ton of refinances right now, I mean, look at those rates!!!
Are you all settle in? Did you stay out of your wifes way while she did all the un-packing.....LOL :)

My wife said I was wrong. It was 60 closings in one week done not necessarily by her but in her office. I don't know exactly how many closing agents work in that office but it can't be more than 3 or 4.

Wow that is still quite a few. I mean doing 3 to 5 closings in one day can be nerve wracking but then it all depends on what kind of support staff you have, ie someone to take the paperwork and finalize it, typing letters, sending out the payoffs....and how organized you are..if you aren't bogged down with all the little junk and can focus on the closing itself it makes it a little easier. It can also be rough when 1 or 2 people call out sick and you have to then add their stuff to your stuff. Sometimes you won't get the lenders loan docs until the morning of the closing and that is really pushing it but oh well, you get use to it and it all depends on how complex the deal is and how much work you have to do on it. :)

So, the next big question is...
Is your new place equipped for computers? Our home, built circa 1958 has plaster walls. It was built right at the cusp of the transition to drywall. This was obviously well before cable or computer networking! :(
Und zo, I am looking at some fishing this spring that unfortunately won't be from a boat. And, the crawler will be me, navigating through trusses and insulation! :(
Would you drop me a line and let me know how you're handling this if you've a similar situation? :)
