I used to have a Compaq K6/2 533 with 64mb. It came with a 8x DVD-ROM, and a 4x CD-RW. I got fed up with that and built a AMD 1.1 T-Bird w/256mb PC-133 and a Radeon 64mb card. I moved the CD-RW, DVD-ROM and the 56k modem over from the old Compaq to the new system, all worked ok, had to seek-and-extract the drivers locked away in a .cab file on the backup CD's, and got that to work. The CD-RW was found fine, and works great, on the other hand, the DVD-ROM drive of which there is no identifying marks cannot be found by the BIOS or Windows. I have tried using the CompaqDVD Drivers for it, and still cannot be found. I used to have a video card with onboard MPEG-2 decoding, and it still wouldn't find it. I was wondering of there was something I skipped, I don't know a whole lot about DVD drives.

If your Bios does not see the drives, it may be the jumpers on the DVD-ROM or CD-R. If DVD-ROM and CD-R are on the same controller, try to disconnect the CD-R and have the DVD-ROM on that controller as a Master. See if that works. Play with these combinations of master and slave on both Primary and Secondary controller see if it would work.
