ATI radeon VE - dual with video out

Hi;
i have the above card running dual monitors.
for the last few days each time i start the pc my primary display is changed to the # 2 monitor.Each time I change it back to primary & each start it goes back to the 2nd display ?
Also when i go to the settings tab & hit the advanced tab the primary monitor flickers 4-5 times.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem is ?

I know this sounds obvious but did try switching the connections?

I think it will not make a difference as the settings are in the display & that are picked & applied there as to which is monitor # 1 or # 2 or one wants the Flat Panel or TV as display.

All the time before if I'l pick the left monitor as # 1 it will stay as primary with Win opening up in the left monitor.

But now each time the Win is closed in the left side monitor & it opens in the right side # 2 monitor.

The left monitor only flickers during changing settings & when these are applied the right one stays stable.

Did you try either installing the latest video card drivers, or uninstalling and reinstalling the card's software?

yes;
i installed the latest video drivers for Win - xp system for the ATI.

When you installed the new drivers for the card did you unistall the old drivers before the new installation?

Have you been into safe mode to see if there are double entries there for the video?

You could try and remove the reference for card from within device manager whilst in safe mode then reboot into windows. The card should then be found and only the lates drivers should be found.

yes;
the old driver & ATI control panel was removed through add remove program of Win XP - Pro .

on restart the new Catalyst 3.2 driver suite ver :6.14.01.6037 and
ATI control panel ver : 6.14.10.4029 were installed separately.

these were installed after closing all running applications in the task manager.

I have followed the procedure twice.it still keep switching the Win xp from primary monitor to the secondary after the shutoff & then restart.

Try Ernie's suggestion and start in Safe mode, remove all video cards from Device Manager, and restart the computer.

Started in safe mode & have NO double entries for the video card.No yellow Q marks or anyother signs.

in device manager everything is working ok.

Video card has latest drivers as given in the previous post.

Still the Win xp is switched to the 2ndry monitor after shutoff & new start.

It seems that there are a host of oddities when running a dualhead card in XP, the dual video feature seems to work best with two cards.

Searched Google and came up with a host of problems, but no solutions other than to try using two discrete cards.

well never had any problems running Dual head Cards :::ATI or Matrox on Windows > i was running ATI since the Win XP came out & it was very stable these problems mentioned in the original post just came couple of weeks back !!

If sou can you roll back prior to the update and see if it still happens?

No recent video updates for the Win Xp.

but did get the regular security issue updates 2 or 3 for xp.

pl read the link - almost the same issue as i have in a different forum for the # 1 or # 2 monitor . i also prefre the left hand as primary monitor & that was the one running as primary until the problem surfaced.
