I've been having, (my friends been having) a problem for the past mmm... about a year and a half, although he hasn't had any serious problems until about a month ago.

The long and the short of it, his computer won't turn on. Much more complicated, it eventually turns on, but with repetitious mashing of the reset button. He and I have both been using computers since we could spell silicon, but we still can't figure out what's wrong.

He used to be able to turn on his system (year and a half ago) with a simple power on, wait, hit the reset once, and it's a go. This was okay for him, but resently, the problem has gotten worse. He now often spends a good half hour hitting the reset button until it finally turns on. He is getting very agitated by this and it's slowly driving him crazy. If that's not annoying enough, it get's better. Just about a half hour ago, when he and I were both playing DII:LOD. His computer blacked out and went into it's non-booting state, and since has had no luck turning it on. Here's his specs for your viewing pleasure, please help us!

- AMD K6/2 500Mhz
- 196mb PC133/100 (don't ask)
- Voodoo5 5500 PCI 64mb
- 40gb Western Digital
- 10gb Western Digital
- Tyan ???? Motherboard

- Anything else would be useless, but if you need something, I'll be on the net for a while, just ask. Thanks in advance, hope you can help us both.

Hi, first thing i would check is his power supply-this sounds like it's been failing for a long time and it may not have ben adequate in the first place. I would try replacing it with at least a 300w.

Post back here with the results if you don't mind.

Judgeing by the spec's you listed and the fact this more or less began a year and a half ago...You must be dealing with a tired 250W power supply. And look what you are asking it to take care of. New 300W (minimum) needed here. Luck.
