i access internet thru lan. yesterday i was accessing internet thru my friends pc who is also on the same lan. he setup a proxy server (analogX), i changed the relevant settings in my pc and accessed the net. I had messenger and browser on, and i asked my friend whether he could see which sites i visited, my loginname-password on msgbrd. He said he couldnt, there wasnt any provision in analogX to see such things.

well, i am curious to know, is it possible that the data passing thru the proxy server can be viewed (login-password especially) thru any software etc ? A friend told me that if the proxy server software logs all the activity, then possibly he CAN see everything, but i doubt him as login-password typed out on various sites / messengers is encrypted and so one cant really see the data even if the proxy server software logs everything.

A definite maybe, the use of proxies, especially anonymizing ones is entirely dependant on the trust you are willing to put into it. Yes, if logging is kept details can be gleaned, like your "real" IP, possibly passwords (depends on what kind/level of encryption),
