Hi,

Plugging your broadband modem and pc into a wireless router/switch and having a wireless pc card for the laptop does work.

I dont know the prices at the moment but I believe you could hook it up for under $200.00.

I have used Lynksys, the card worked well at about 60 feet.

You have two choices:

1) Wireless This will require

A) Wireless Router/Hub $ 75.00
B) Wireless card for PC $ 70.00
C) Wireless Card for Laptop $ 67.00
---------------------------------------------------
Total Cost $212.00

2) Wired This will require

A) Electrician to install cable $ 75.00
between the 2 pc's
B) Linksys 4 port Router $ 55.00
C) 3 Patch Cables $ 30.00
----------------------------------------------------
Total Cost $160.00

Unless your house is really old or the two computers are in bizarre locations, you should be able to get an electrician to run the cable for about 1 hour of labor and a few bucks for parts. If not the wireless option is the best.

The advantage to wireless is you can take the laptop almost anywhere in the house and still have it work.

The advantage to wired is it is faster, cheaper and more secure.

You'll have to work out what is best for you.
