Hi,

I am trying to salvage an old system, k6 2, AMD 350. I noticed that on reboots, the ram (128/pc133) would cycle through 3 times before continuing to boot. The RAM is reading correctly all three times. Then I pressed "esc" and of course it'd continue on booting up, but occasionally, on a new restart, the ram would not show itself cycling, although it shows up on the next boot page as the correct amount.

In the meantime, I installed 98 on it and one other error appeared, in the device manager, it shows there is an error for the primary ide controller (dual fifo). I checked and there are no conflicts with it. Although I know this is probably unrelated, I thought I should mention it.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jenn

I think there is a setting in the BIOS for how many checks it makes? Try scouring through the diff options?

On the other issue try booting into safe mode and remove the controller from the Device Manager and reboot. Also, you may need the USB patch for AMD processors running Win 98 check here (http://www.usbman.com) for that http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey,

I had the same problem last year. Someone advised me to disable the "Test Memory Above 1mb" in BIOS. I did that, and it would then only test the memory once.

However, there is a risk that a memory error will then not be found. Guess it depends on how comfortable you are with the quality of your memory.

Cheers,

try turning on "fast power up on boot" or something of that nature in the bios menu.
