Hi

Is there a way of finding out if my current case is an ATX case? I cant find anything in the documentation....
It is a Tiny Home Copy system (i think thats the name of it!). My current motherboard is a MS-6191....is that an ATX motherboard? Basically I need to upgrade my current mobo, but i need to find out what case I have :)

cheers, Rob

Not to be rude but the old parable...

Feed a man a fish - he eats for a day,,,

Teach a man to Go Fish (http://www.google.ca/) and he eats for a lifetime.

Just put in the info you have and presto! I looked it up but I'm keeping it a secret.. ;)

HERE (http://www.e4all.info/motherboards/msi6191.htm) is some info. Hope that's the right board. :)

Here's how I look to see at a glance. If your keyboard uses the connection on the left, it's an AT mainboard. If it uses the connection on the right, it's ATX. If there are exceptions to this, will someone out there let me know?

It looks like you have a micro-ATX board which means that it is probably a micro-ATX case. Regardless, if you are going to get a new board, I would urge getting a new case anyway. Faster chips usually run hotter than older systems and, therefore, they need more cooling. A larger case with more room for fans will address this. You can buy a decent case for well under $50. Check out options at www.newegg.com

There are some socket 7 boards out there that can be either AT or ATX for power supply hook up and have the AT keybaord connector. These Hybrid beasts usually take both SIMM and DIMM memory sticks too.

Thanks mjc. Do you know what form factor they were?

Here is one example of what MJC mentioned: Tyan S1590S (http://www.aberdeeninc.com/abcatg/MB5006.htm) - Baby AT

I wasn't ignoring you as some know here I take a brief intermission during the day. The 4 letter word known as work! But I knew you'd be in good hands while I was away... :) Your board is way too new to be AT.

With the link I gave you, all you needed to do is type in MS-(your #'s here) and browse the hit returns at the site. You'll learn, as I did with the help of all whom frequent here.

As a matter of fact, I'd do as Budfred mentioned but maybe take it a little further in that you could start building an entirely new system because what you have is not half bad. Excellent internet browser, CD burner and various other duties would be fine. Granted it's not a high-end gaming machine but I'm sure someone would like it just the way it is. Or it could be a second pc for those times that you need another pc while the newer one is being worked on. How much memory is in it? The info we've seen maxes at 512megs so I'd at least put 256 in it if it doesn't already. If from 64 to 256, you'd see a huge improvement.

Pentachris,
I have an AOpen board that has the AT keyboard and power connector and uses Simms and Dimms modules. I also have an IBM that uses PS2 and Dimms but uses an AT power connector that I recently gave to my parents. I guess they come in many variations. Both boards use IDE and ISA components.

Mjc,
The AOpen is in a server case that comes to well above my knee. Does that make it a 'beast'? :D

Well thanks for the advice :)

Instead of making a whole new PC, i'll stick to the original plan of keeping most of my components, but upgrade MOBO, RAM, CPU...

Although a new case may be needed too, as well as a new power supply. Man, im gonna be broke by the end of the month :(
