Search Engines???

Hey guys,

Can anybody recommend some good search engines and any tips you can give me when submitting a homepage or site on the World Wide Web. Is there some harder to get hooked up with than others and how long does it usually take before it all comes into effect. Thanks so much for all your help. :D
