internet locking up

I recently resored my compaq 5834 to its factory settings, now every time I get on the internet it freezes up, and I have to push the on/off button to restart it, sometimes it locks up when the homepage is loading and sometimes it lets me on for a few minutes. I tried defragmenting the computer and also disabled somethings in the msconfig/startup but Im not sure whats ok to disable, any other ideas? Thanks

look in your DUN (dial up networking) settings, see how many adapters that compaq has installed that you are not using.

The factory retore brings back all the settings that were there from compaq to begin with, which include several that you don't need.

and any that have "bindings" to protocols that you aren't using.

give us a list of what you have there.

I do not know alot about computers but if your talking about the allowed network protocols in the d.o.n. the only one that is marked is TCP/IP, and its the device manager your talking about theres one dialup adapter in there. I still cant figure it out, Thanks for reading my post.
