laptop will not start

last night while i was surfing on the web my computer blinked out completely and when i hit the power button to try to start it again it did nothing. No lights no beeps, no power. I checked the ac adapter and it was plugged in properly. It is a refurbished sony vaio with KMD 550 processor that i purchassed just over three months ago. I am not very computer wise so any help will be apreciated greatly.

My thinkpad at work does this when it sits idle for a while. It's a power conservation thing. Mine comes back to life if I close the lid/display and then open it again. I'll bet you've got a power setting kicking in and shutting down when it sits idle for x amount of time.
