Ok I know everyone has pet peeves and if you are like me you probably have a ton of them LOL.:D

One of my pet peeves is interstate driving. You know where the guy in front of you goes slow then speeds up then goes slow and you are trying like heck to maintain one speed and so you do the intelligent thing, you proceed to pass them, but noooooooo, they all of a sudden have a thing about you passing them and then they speed up to your speed and if you go faster, they go faster...until you have to do 100 mph to get in front of them and you travel at this speed for at least 1/2 a mile to ensure that you have indeed accomplished your mission.

Ahhhhh, free at last. Now you can set the cruise control and enjoy the drive. But then ***groaning*** here they come from behind, passing everyone as they go, including you, until you are back where you started and this cycle continues until either you turn off or they do.

Quite irritating and one of my peeves.

So, what are your peeves? Come on I know you have them. Get it out in the open, you will feel better, unless of course you have a pet peeve about talking about pet peeves. LOL :D :D

One of my pet peeves is to be driving at or near the speed limit in the left lane with another car poking along at 35 MPH in the right lane and no vehicles behind either of us as far back as I can see. Suddenly the car in the right lane stomps the accelerator, whips in front of me, jams on the brake, and makes a left turn. The inconvenience and danger to both of us was completely unnecessary had he maintained speed and slipped in behind me. Should I fail to react in time and rear-end him then I will very likely be considered "at fault".

Another is when a light turns green and the guy in front of me, who has been jerking forward every couple of seconds like he's in a big hurry, reacts like green lights are a totally new experience to him.

Then there's the spelling of "separate" and its variations. From my 7th grade English teacher: There is "a rat" in separate. OK, that's petty, I know. But it bugs me.

People who post their thread subject with Help!!! so that when doing a search you can't tell if the return has any relevence for what you are looking for until you actually open the thread.

People who say Daylight Savings Time when it is actually Daylight Saving Time.

People who are too cheap to get their brake lights fixed so they drive with their hazard lights on at night thinking that they are complying with the law.

People who rattle on and don't get their freaking point across.

People who are always on a diet but never seem to loose any weight so you know that as soon as they are alone their cramming a Big Mac down their gullet.

PEOPLE WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS.

People who run fan sights for bands.

People who submit a resume with a spelling or grammatical error.

People who make a sign and don't proof read it before hanging or posting it.

People who make long lists of pet peeves.

I am developing a pet peeve of people who post asking for help, but don't give any information about the problem, don't give any specs, don't say what they have done to address the problem and don't use words (ie: "ur" for your, "u" for you, "ne" for any and so on).

I also have a problem with people assuming that someone who is trying to reduce their weight is overeating if they don't succeed. Overeating is only one factor in obesity and it is often not a factor for some obese people. Differences in metabolism have a great deal to do with how people convert food into energy or fat.

"Peeves" (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9568&highlight=My+Pet+Peeves)
No offense Graçious, but another is some people just post a thread about a subject or query that was just covered or recent enough to still be on the same page. (Yours is not)

Trick questions: Does this dress make me look fat? Is this seat taken? How many times have I told you not to do that?

:) Want the honest answers???

uh oh, sorry Fruss Tray Ted, didn't know it was already posted once before...:o Geez, but it did help Autoeng get some things out into the open:) and I guess about the weight diet thing, Budfred you are so right about it not being a simple matter of dieting, that for a lot of people it is their own bodies hurting them. But what I don't understand are these people who are on these fad diets and you see them analyzing their food and making you feel guilty if they don't eat that slice of cake and you do and they have to make it a point to tell you how many calories you just ate and how that can effect your over all health and you drink too much coffee...or the ones who do order that slice of cake and a diet pepsi...because they are on a diet. Cracks me up.

Generally diets are a lost cause from the get go and more often actually contribute to long term weight gain by slowing down the metabolism to prepare for what the body perceives to be famine. Lifestyle change is the only way to really manage weight long term for most people - eating 3 or more meals a day, limiting total calories, exercising, maintaining a diverse diet and avoiding righteous diatribes about other people's eating habits.

I work with people who struggle with these issues all the time and I believe most of them when they tell me they are gaining weight (or at least not losing) on fewer calories a day than many thin people eat for lunch. It is interesting that there are now only 2 groups of people that it is safe for people to make fun of without an uproar - obese people and the elderly.....

Thanks Autoeng,

While your comment sparked my rant, it is an issue that I work with all the time and is one of my pet peeves anyway. I don't believe that most people who make "fat jokes" understand that they can be hurtful and counterproductive, I believe they see them as supportive of the obese person by pushing them to lose weight. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. I am starting to rant again, so I will just say thank you and leave it at that.

Autoeng, no offense taken here. Budfred made some really good points. As one who was obese for a lot of years I found that my problem was complex. First, I really did have a gland problem (the salava gland). Next, I lied to myself a lot - certain foods at certain times "didn't count". Third, and probably the most significant in my case, was that the most exercise that I got was going back and forth to the fridge for snacks.

Those comments are not intended to poke fun at anything or anyone. Those were my basic problems. Everyone must assess their own situation if they have weight problems.

One of Budfred's most significant statements concerns diets as opposed to life-style changes. There are scores of diets that will absolutely produce weight loss - temporarily. But a lifestyle change is the only one that will work. I found what worked best for me and have stuck with it with success.

I have a friend who has lost 30lbs on the Dr. Atkins diet and she is still losing and she doesn't feel like she is starving to death like she did on other diets. You know it is very real problem in this country especially among our young folks. I don't know if it is the fact that they are always playing video games, computer and now with dvd...they don't go out and play. Geez I remember playing with my friends outside until the sun slowly disappeared and running in the house and so hungry and smelling moms cooking! oh what a memory. Getting all itchy from rolling around in the grass. Anyway, I think technology has really taken away so much of their imaginative spirits. I am thankful that my father taught me the appreciation of books.

1. People who refuse the right of way in traffic. You wait for them to move, but they just sit there and let everyone else go first.

2. The 57,843 adolescent girls that call my son every night.

3. People who talk for hours and say nothing.

4. Quizzes. "What do you want for dinner? Do you want a vagetable? Do you want potato? Are you sure? Do you want milk or juice? Are you sure? How about salad? Do you think I'm pretty? Are you sure?"

5. Long, boring posts about things like church architecture.

6. Cigarette smoke.

7. People who take themselves too seriously.

People who can't make choices, and respond to questions with non-answers or questions:

"What would you like for dinner"...."Food." or "You were planning to make spagetti, weren't you?"

"What movie would you like to watch?"..."Whatever you want is fine."

"Are we going to go shopping this Saturday afternoon, or did you want to go over to Jenn's?"..."It's up to you."

"Were you planning to go to Art's and fix his puter this evening?"..."Did you want me to go Art's this evening?"

ARGH.

Forgot to rant about another one...Help files that are NO help. Was reading through entire Help files in a program yesterday. In one instance, said on main page.."Read this first about formatting RWs". Clicked on it, and it takes me to a blank page. Looked everywhere for setting write speed, found page, went where Help files said..not there. Found that by accident later..not where they said. Have a scanner that says in Help files.."If you're having trouble with the flatbed driver, don't install it." Which, of course, is already installed along with the non-Help files.

Getting old, I think getting older is completly unfair and even un-American. There ought to be a law. A close second would be not being able to see without switching glasses all the time. Third would be war, not very good for the health and well being of us humans

Oh I almost forgot!!! I am really peeved over the fact that infogames completely ruined Master of Orions!!! I couldn't wait for III to come out and they kept jerking everybody around, delaying the release...and then the final moment, you get in the mail, you run into the house, tearing the package open, load it, and then, dismal, disappointing totally ruined it for me. Why did they have to change it? Trying to reinvent the wheel and it didn't work. Anyway....
