Hi folks,
I have two computers sitting side by side and I was wondering what would be the best option for me to go if I wanted to hook them together for print sharing, internet sharing, etc etc.... Is there an advantage to networking them together as opposed to just cross connecting?

Thanks for any feedback.

Internet sharing is easier with a switcher/router. Either will probably work though. Others with more networking background will be along to tell you more.

A crossover cable can be used easily between two computers.

Here's some quick and easy information:

One thing to consider...while it is fairly easy to setup 2 machines with a cross-over cable adding in any more is a real pain. Setting up a true entwork with a router or hub extra machines can be added with littl additional hassle.

Also, how do you access the Internet? If a machine uses it's network card for Internet then you can't use that card to access the other computer at the same time. You'd need a second card. If you access the Internet by modem (dialup) then no problem.

Thanks for all the replies,
For now I think I'll use the crossover cable, and if I decide to add my third computer I'll take mj's advise and set it up with a router or hub. And yes I'm using the old dail-up modem method.

thanks again,
