Hi all - just a quick question - what is the difference between the terms hard disk and hard drive? Isn't this just a different term for the same thing?
Thanks muchly
Ted.

No diff. Pick the one you like :)
Or really through everyone for a loop and call it a HDD (hard disk drive).

It seems to refer to ALL disk drives.
e.g.
Zip drives, CD drives, mini disk drives.
I'm sure I've even seen it used to refer to floppy disk drives!
Of course, there is a difference between a disk and a drive.
TERMS
DISK
DRIVE
DISK DRIVE
HARD DISK
HARD DISK DRIVE
So a "disk" [being a general term] is less specific than "hard disk", which is different to a "drive" [being a general term] which is less specific than a "disk drive", which is less specific than "Hard Disk Drive".
Whew!
This "Logic" business is tiring.

YES!
Well caught Budfred.
I too get annoyed when people do that and must be asked to specify what the !%^&$&* they are talking about.
I think the "it" that I had in mind is "the term" that gets used [I think by Microsoft] when they refer to "disk drives".
I've seen it used [if my memory isn't failing me] as a general term that seemed to be intended to include Floppy disk drives and I thought that odd.

I've seen it used [if my memory isn't failing me] as a general term that seemed to be intended to include Floppy disk drives and I thought that odd.The funny thing is the carry-over of the term "floppy" from the 5 1/4" days, since the current floppy disk is a hard disk. Or at least the casing is, the inside is still floppy...
So does that mean that the term "soft disk" can also be used? Are there any more soft disks other than the hard-cased floppy?

I have encountered the term "stiffy" for a 3½ removeable disk!
(just to confuse the issue)

There are no bragging rights to go along with a 3½" stiffy let alone a 5¼". Oh, so cute... :p
I'm sorry but, disk was too 'hard' to resist... :D :o
Floppy disks used to come in an 8" size...
