Since we have cable my wife kept aol [another topic discussed at length elsewhere] They now have aol 8 plus which among other things has a free firewall from mcAfee. I've tested it and it seems to work on whole computer to internet, not just aol. The question is that is this firewall any good or is basically the same as the one that comes with XP?
Thanks Mark:)
It's called McAfee firewall express

It's better than XPs yes. XP has no outbound protection.
There are many better free firewalls though than Mcafee. I would reccomend trying Kerio or Outpost.

I agree, but as I said it comes free with aol plus which my wife uses. Can or should you use 2 firewalls? I would prefere not as there must be a conflict.

Some firewalls you can use alongside, some conflict though. It's trial and error. But there's no reason to anyway really. Well you don't have to use it because it comes with it free do you? What's the harm in using a better free one. :)

I use and when asked (which doesn't happen often), recommend Kerio. It's free. It's good. It's light on memory & resources. SNM.

I used to be a big ZA fan, but it has gotten to the point where it needs a diet....

So a few months ago I thought I would try Kerio again, and I am very pleased....

Found that Kerio is one of the ones that plays well with many other ones around.

PS: Anonymous....hmmm, we agree ;)
