Recently whilst using my firewall I've found that many times something called Application Layer Gateway Service and Generic Host Process for Win32 Services have had incoming and outgoing connections being blocked and accepted. What do these mean?

In future could you please post computer details. (Operating System for example) This could save time and get your problem fixed a lot quicker, and means that those who use that particular systen/hardware can give correct answer ;)
Don't know about Application Layer Gateway (I have read somewhere about it being a Win2k file) and is essential. Someone else will come back about it.
But Generic Host Proccess - In my experience it does no harm to block it from the net. A thread was run on this a while ago Below is the link.
