Hullo,

Unfortuantely, the other day I wired the mains supply to my mainboard the wrong way round. There was a bit of a bang and afterwards I reconnected the cabels but this time correctly (the black ones in the middle!!!).When I try and boot the computer now, I just get the message "CMOS Checksum Error- Defaults loaded". I realise this means there is something wrong with the power supply but the other problem i have got, is I don't if the cabels responsible for LED, Power Display etc. are correctly connected because the computer is old and I don't have any documentation for it.

Should I throw the Motherboard away or is there anything else I can do here. I would appreciate any tips.

I think you are correct in the assumption that the board is toast being an AT mobo. You can try replacing the motherboard battery then see if it will work for you.

If you are still interested in finding documentation on the motherboard...go to this site (http://iceberg.pchomeworld.com/cgi-win/mobotGen/mobot.asp) and enter all the information you can from looking at the motherboard. You can then go to the manufacturer's site and look for a manual to download.

I had done the same think a few years ago and destroyed the whole motherboard, but for some reasons your case might be different. Once your motherboard is burned, you don't get any messages through the video, you get beeps telling you what is wrong. If you video shows something, it means that boot process had checked your motherboard, CPU, memory, etc and they passed.

Find the name and model number of your motherboard and do a search on the web for that model see if you can get the manual.

Thanks Chaps,

I think I'll go for the manual and then try and recharge the battery. If that doesn't work then I'll remember the experience and then flush.
