I had to reinstall XP Home on one of my computers. Now, when I drag any window it sort of wobbles as I move it and a trail of duplicate windows follows it along. How can I change this? I don't know if this is important but I have a Matrox G550 video card installed with the latest drivers and the screen resolution, etc. appear to be normal.
Just a guess, but you might try right-clicking the desktop and select Properties, then the Appearance tab, then the Effects button. Try turning off some effects and see if that makes a difference.

You might also want to check mouse settings and make sure you don't have it set to produce trails. I have mine set intentionally to do that since it make it easier to find that tiny little cursor with my dubious eyes...

You could also play with the various settings when you right click "My Computer">Properties>Advanced>Performance,Settings>Visual Effects...

Try running it in standard vga mode (you will do this automatically if you boot into safe mode)
does the problem still appear? if not, there are a couple of possibilities: the video driver needs to be changed (latest does not necessarily mean best) or you have too many programs running in the background. use task manager to see what is running-there could be all sorts of garbage in there. ensure that windows assigns the swap file itself, and that all fancy effects are turned off on your desktop, including animation.

Good call. I rolled back the drivers to a disk I found at home. Seems ok. Thanks.
