Laptop Computer Build Question

You are correct, it wouldn't be very easy. There was another thread recently about the same topic, so you might want to search for it. The basic conclusion, if I remember correctly, is that it might make sense to rebuild used laptops, but building a laptop from scratch is likely to be more trouble and expense than it is worth...

I think it is possible to find the parts to build a laptop. However, it could be a bit expensive depending on the brand you are interested in. One could first make a draft of the parts, and check on their cost before enbarking on such a project. I thought of building a Dell laptop today. A search on the internet for parts returned the following useful link

You then select the computer parts you want (Dell, IBM, Acer HP etc).
Because of compartibility problems, I would suggest you log onto the manufacturers page to have a idea of possible configurations.
Another is to buy a very cheap used one for a model.

I think the question was whether you can build one yourself though. These are nicknamed "whitebook" notebooks.

Notebooks are quite proprietary and specialized due to the size and packaging of their systems, and generally built by one of a limited number of outsource manufacurers for a specific label.

I think the major problem would be finding a suitable case (cover) to suite your design.
