The Seven Deadly Sins of Gilligan's Island
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is Gilligan the Devil?
Years ago, CBS had a popular little series called "Gilligan's Island". There is, however, a dark secret about this "comedy" you may never have realized. The island is a direct representation of Hell.
Nobody on the island wants to be there, yet none are able to leave. Each one of the characters represents one of the 7 deadly sins:
Ginger represents LUST - she wears skimpy outfits, is obsessed with her looks, and is a borderline nymphomaniac.
Mary Ann represents ENVY - she is jealous of Ginger's beauty.
The Professor represents PRIDE - he is an annoying know-it-all.
Mr. Howell represents GREED - no explanation needed.
Mrs. Howell represents SLOTH - she has never lifted a finger to help on any of their escape plans.
The Skipper represents two sins: GLUTTONY - again, no explanation needed and ANGER - he violently hits Gilligan on each show.
This leaves Gilligan. Gilligan is the person who put them there. He prevents them from leaving by foiling all of their escape plots. Also, it is HIS island. Therefore, Gilligan is SATAN.
Crazy? He does wear red in every episode.

Ginger seemed to be awfully chaste for a borderline nymphomaniac....

Mrs. Howell was helping....helping herself to her flask of gin between takes.

Shouldn't that be "chased" ;)

Yes he does doesn't he!
Maybe when the Skipper calls him L'il Buddy he is getting the evil eye from Gilligan and has to grovel for fear that Gilligan will turn him into a gigantic coconut cream pie!
It is strange how they were never able to shut Gilligan up, hide from Gilligan, ditch Gilligan, cook Gilligan, KILL Gilligan!
Makes one wonder about the devil thingy!

I thought the weird one was Mary Anne as Envy. Almost every guy I know has a thing for her, not Ginger!

Nope can't agree. Ginger is deffinately more on the road to damnation!;)

I much preferred Mary Ann too, but I would have liked her to be a little more assertive. Envy no, passivity yes....

I think Ginger better represents TEASE. But I guess that's not in the approved list.
If I had to compare Gilligan to a biblical character I would have to go with Eutychus. The klutz who dozed off during a sermon and fell 3 stories to his death but was revived. Couldn't get rid of him either.
I can't imagine why I thought of Eutychus... :D

Ahhhh, but was he wearing red when he literally fell in his dream?:D

I'm beginning to wonder where this line of thinking is headed. Santa wears a red hat and suit. Rearrange the letters in the word Santa and...

Other than cartoons that portray Satan in red, is there any biblical or scriptural reason to believe that red is satanic???
I think Gilligan's Island is an archetype for incompetence and testing the lowest common denominator of the viewing public rather than a review of the 7 deadly sins... Now some of the current crop of reality shows, those seem to be produced by Satan itself....

I've always wondered about that. I wonder if it's a hold out of an older religion, or just the color of fire maybe? Hmmm..
"Reality" shows are the most assinine thing TV folk have ever spewed forth! ..Gilligan has to be a close second though :) Wasn't it made by the same people who brought us the classic Brady Bunch?
Well.....isn't that SPEEECIALLLL

NO NOT SANTA!
Budfred, I guess I was one of those in the lowest common denominator...yes I use to watch it as a little person. C'mon, some of the episodes were funny like the one where the professor made a substance that he used to fill a cavity in Gilligan's tooth and they found out via ape that the material was highly explosive...funeeee.:D

I watched it too, but that doesn't mean that it was worth the time invested. One of the interesting things about shows like Gilligan's Island is that they rapidly induce an alpha state to the human brain, basically a light trance. This is part of the reason why people watch, it can be very restful. Have you ever noticed how quickly the time goes during a program like that??? :D

How about:
"Behold Satan, who comes arrayed in red vestments. His jocular countenance belies his intent to maim, kill, and destroy."
-Hezekiah 12:32
Hezekiah is one of my favorites books of the Old Testament. It contains all of the answers to life's mysteries that are so hard to find or prove from other sources.
Besides, I have the only copy!

Well that certainly makes it an authoritative reference!! :D

Haha, that's good...I like that. All I can say on this matter is, "I CAN'T believe I ever watched that show and liked it", but that was a long, long time ago. And, and from a female perspective if I had to choose between Mary-Ann or Ginger...I would prefer to be Mary-Ann. I think she would get the most men overall but that's just my opinion. ;) :D
