System Freezes and Won't Reboot

My fathers PC intermittently freezes and has to be left for 20 minutes or so before it can be used again. During this time, if you switch it off and on again then it won't boot, and doesn't even try to boot from a floppy. This leads me to think that he may have a hardware problem.

There does not seem to be any pattern re; when this will happen i.e. sometimes if happens after 1-2 minutes use, sometimes after hours

Hi Stodge - I think you might want to provide some technical details, such as Desktop or Laptop PC, Operating System, CPU, memory etc.

The fact that you have to wait 20 min or so tells me you have a HEAT problem with the CPU.......open the case and locate the cpu/Fan.....watch as you turn the system on to see if it is spinning.......probably not turning and you are overheating the cpu after running it for a bit....new CPU fans are about $15 and should solve the problem.
