I am supposed to buy a car from a company because:
Some idiot sits in the car in an assembly line honking his horm because it isn't moving fast enough...
Some idiot believes that licking a car will designate as his choice....
A group of idiots rely on a moron with a compass to tell them which way to look to find the dealership for the vehicle in question....
A group of idiots weave in and out of traffic looking at attractive women....
An idiot believes that covering a vehicle with brush will designate it as his choice....
We are supposed to make informed decisions because these idiots like these vehicles????
I am supposed to buy this product:
Because the company tells me that it is easier for me to go to their store, buy the uncooked pizza from them and take it home to bake it myself....
Because the company employs delusional delivery staff to deliver their pizza....
Because a race car driver is incapable of setting a table to eat dinner without a pit crew to do it for him....
Because delusional women get excited about using a cheap shampoo....
Because violent thugs seem to prefer a particular brand of shoes....
Because vandals provide a demonstration of a deodorant product by setting a trap for bycycle racers resulting in almost certain injury....
Because vandals endorse a particular soft drink by driving in a reckless and potentially lethal manner....
Because a delusional teen engages in battle with a big horn sheep to endorse a soft drink....
And unfortunately, ad nauseum....
Extra points if you know the name of the product.............

ROFL! I think I should curb my TV viewing time, I got almost all the extra points..
Here's one that bugs me, why does Victoria's Secret use Super models with their boobs hanging out, to sell underwear to WOMEN? The only thing I get from those commercials is, if they had to use those women to make it look good, what hope do I have?

goober, there are alot of men who buy items from Victoria Secrets. I know it sounds unbelievable but I have a friend whos husband actually circles the items in the Victoria's catalogue for her to buy...I asked her if that irritated her and she said "Not really because I end up buying the things that I want too".:) Whatever I really don't get it either, but it must help their sales or they wouldn't be doing it right? Hmmm makes you wonder who their target audience is :D
Commercials are getting sickening though aren't they? Can't watch a t.v. program without being bombarded. You get to watch 10 mins. of the program and then have to wait another 20 mins. of commercials before the program comes on for another 10 mins. UGH!
In general I guess most people will buy anything if they take the pitch hook line and sinker and those advertisers know it. Look at all those info ads. Tells you alot about our society as a whole. Scary.
Total points here ZERO

I was reading this, and totally baffled. Couldn't figure out what you were talking about. "Zoom, zoom" was my clue...I tape everything we watch on a VCR here in my office, then we watch it whenever we want, and we zoom through commercials. So, the only commercials I have to ignore are those during the news. Almost all of those are drug commercials..although this morning I can't remember what the "purple pill" is for, and heard the commercial a zillion times. Talk about insulting intelligence! Some of the drugs advertised have things at the end, said very quickly, like "side effects may include severe heart problems"... And for diet pills, "side effects may include nausea, diarrea, and sleeplessness." Yeah, I want to take that pill!
Seriously, though..this stuff scares me. It seems to me that the quality of television offerings gets lower and lower every year, and the networks are apparently making money..so someone is watching that dreck. It frightens me to think that those same people will be voting in the next election.
If they are watching these things ( AD’s and Infomercial’s ) to the point that it influences them
Then they are couch potatoes ..
What self respecting Couch Potato is going to get up and go out to Vote ?
I read one of those warning also that said something about possible permanent Kidney Damage
“Zocor “ at $120.00 a Month ?

I seem to recall a decade or so back how our FDA was sooo much of road block in developing new and better drugs. Their stringent regulations were just sooo beyond reason. I have to laugh.
TV ads I think, target certain groups, I cannot understand driving fast but nascar enthusiast may.
I don't understand tieing ropes across roads and possibly causing severe accidents but degenerates might.
someone sitting in a car honking there horn on an assembly line may appeal to someone who is living life much to fast for me.
There is something for everyone I guess. When I dont change the channel,(the wifes hates when I have the remote)
I like the ones of someone fishing and they are secure in the thought that there is not a toilet for miles:)

I end up catching the commercials because I have the TV on in the background when I am on the computer. When I actually want to watch a show, I almost always record and fast forward the commercials. The drug commercials are irritating in their own way, but the ones I listed are significant for the fact that they seem to be saying we should buy the product because some total idiot likes it. Of course there are many with similar themes that I didn't remember or the list would have been much longer....

How about zolcore and "Living Large"!!
I thought about it, but it is temporary and after more thought, it really is how you use it.:D

That's my worry.."they seem to be saying we should buy the product because some total idiot likes it". They're beginning to act like we are ALL total idiots and will buy anything or watch anything they stick in front of our faces, no matter how inane. Since we don't watch the shows I am fussing about, I can't really give you a list, but every single year there are fewer shows for me to tape for us to watch. And I admit that it's not very intellectual of us to be watching tv anyway, but sometimes tired people in an evening just like to sit on the couch together and watch a movie or a taped tv show..because too tired to do much else.

Love that MUTE Button
That's funny.....I've often told people that is my FAVORITE button on the remote.
I almost have it down to an art. Mute it in anticipation of a commercial, and un-mute it precisely as the show starts again! ;)
My wife thinks I'm nuts......................She's right.

whoo boy, I'm right with ya Budfred!! Never in all my life would I have expected to see on TV what I see now days. I think the one thing that comes to my mind, and it's quite tragic, happened about a year ago. A 19 year old boy bought one of the these new cars that was advertised on TV, could do 0 to 80 or some such thing in 60 seconds. Well, he really believed the commerical, and took a corner at 85 miles an hour believing that the car would be just fine as per the commerical, killed all four of the kids. A 19, 14,16 and 22 year old. The 22 year old we had known since he was a child, went to school with my youngest son. So, not only are these commericals crazy they are dangerous as well!! We have satillite TV and it's just as bad if not worse than the other. Used to we could sit and watch a show and not have too much bologna but now it's just like what has already been said, 10 minutes show, 20 minutes commercials. I too love the mute button on my remote!! Glad I won't be around when the present generation is running my country!
LG;)

I got seven points on the quiz. I'm a commercial nut, and I come from a family of commercial nuts. No, really, almost every time I visit with my parents or brother or sister, one of us will bring up a new commercial we recently saw. It happened just this past Easter Sunday when I asked my brother if he'd seen a new SportsCenter commercial. And when a new commercial comes on that I haven't seen before, I'm glued to the TV until it's over. Much to my wife's dismay.
I'm not saying there aren't a lot of really bad commercials on TV. There are. And several you mentioned are among them.
But I do have to admit that I really like the Mountain Dew commercial you mentioned with the big horn sheep. :D

Kids are truly influenced by what they see us do so you can imagine what they are getting out of the boob tube. The little girl who was killed by her cousin who was doing WWF junk, or kids pouring mineral spirits on themselves and lighting a match and burning 65% of their bodies because it looked cool on t.v.
One of my biggest beefs are those stupid 1-900-CALL-ME ads. Geez, get a life! Oh and don't forget Howard Stern and his nightly parade of bimbos that he has on that show. Why would anyone care what he thinks is beyond me. I know I am going to upset some of you guys but what is up with "The Man Show", is that really what you want all of us on the other side of the gender fence to think? Is that really what it means to be a man? Geez, I certainly hope not.
Anyway, boy Budfred, what were you doing to think up this topic? It is a doozie!

I have never actually seen The Man Show, but I am pretty sure that it is not representative of what I think, feel and want out of life. I suspect that it isn't representative for most men, even though it may be entertaining to many...
As for how I came up with this topic: as I said earlier, I listen to the TV in the background while I am on the computer. This is most true during the evening news. Every night, at about the same point in the news, that commercial for a car with the idiot sitting in the assembly line honking his horn comes on.... I think I finally just cracked....  :D

Yes commercials are getting bad. I have actually thought of starting a group to boycott companies that have such stupid and insulting ads.
In Germany it is illegal to interupt a program with an ad. All are shown between shows.

I was (unfortunately) reminded of one of the dumber commercials this evening: An apparently drug addled moron wakes up in a mattress store and speculates that he is in heaven including the guess that the overhead page is the supreme diety... An obnoxious salesman stands by and implies that he is in heaven..... I am supposed to want to go out and buy this mattress because the moron likes it????
And that reminds me of another gem: A basketball player wants to write a check and seems to be able to say nothing other than his name and the phrase "can I write a check" while he apparently can't read the sign in front of him saying that checks are not accepted. The idiot behind the counter is apparently unable to say anything other than "yo" and it appears that everyone else who works in the store has a similarly limited vocabulary...... The good news about this one is that they are not actually trying to sell a product based on the actions of these idiots, they are trying to sell credit cards.....

YO!
You know I love the commercial where the little boy says to the little girl, "How did you get a new bike" and she explains that everytime someone gets angry they have to put money in the jar...and then they show dad screaming at his puter...funeeee, maybe I like it because I can relate.:D
But then that commercial with the stupid guy dancing around in his underwear with his pizza..."It's not delivery, it's DiGiorno!" UGH! and the idiot who puts clothes pins on his family's noses because he's using a bar soap that is so Fresh and Invigorating that if he starts using it, they'll smell it and it will wake them up but he forgot the dog??? Geez!!! The dumb dog!!!!
