I read andy@work's comments in the Sponsorship thread, and I wanted to add our thanks as well. Our learning curve hasn't been as great as his (from newbie to shop owner is very impressive!), but my husband and I definitely "started" here in newbie status. And last weekend, my husband decided to take the plunge, and completely wipe the work computer and start over. We didn't want to use the Restore disk because was loaded with um, er, crap/trash/trivia. So, we wiped the hard drive (knowing how to use the zero fill, etc because of you guys), formatted hard drive, installed the OS off an OEM CD, used the WinDriversBackup utility (again, thanks to you guys), and voila! No problems whatsoever in installation, in Device Manager, anywhere..smooth and trouble free. We even got the silly thing to accept some more RAM, which it wouldn't before. Reinstalled the propane program, complete with data..again, no glitches.

The work puter was getting very sluggish after two years, but the most compelling reason to do it now was because the tech support for the propane program told my husband they would continue to support the old buggy program for $1200 a year, or he could change to a new program they wrote and they'd support that for $500. Well, not much of a choice when the owners are so "frugal", so this Monday the tech people installed new program, and did the file conversions from old to new via the phone. And that went smooth as well..no problems.

We honestly couldn't have done it without all of you who have taught us so much over the last two years. We are most grateful for you sharing your knowledge and expertise and time. A fervent "THANK YOU".

I totally agree with Kayofcircles, I have learned an immense amount from just reading the posts. Such wonderment, such a collection of wit and knowledge. Never knew you could throw your keyboard into the dishwasher! So, thank you thank you thank you!

BTW-
WinDriversBackup utility

Say that looks interesting. What exactly is it and do I have it on Win98se? Give me some more info.

The best part of this place is that everyone tries to help without being overbearing.
Great place, hope it last along long time.

Jiggy: I sure echo that! I now have a spare/backup puter to "try" stuff on. Very useful, and reassuring in the sense that if, God forbid, my new one takes a powder for any reason, I have another way to get online. I have often, often!, wondered how anyone with only one puter gets any help. Manufacturers of software and hardware have gotten so skimpy in their manuals, and often practically non-existent in phone assistance...you pretty much have to be able to get online and check their support pages, and do a Google for most troubleshooting. And sometimes, your "spare" needs a CD writer too, because I had to find a replacement driver for a scanner for a friend who couldn't get online, and it was over 2MBs.

Jiggy, I assumed your learning curve was a bit slower than normal from walking into light poles while girl watching....wasn't that you?? :D

I'm gonna post this, but do a search as soon as I'm done...but I seem to remember that when you first became a fixture around here that you revealed encountering a few fixtures yourself that altered your course and blurred your vision...

Hehe....Boy, that link brought back some memories! :D

Which reminds me....Since Kay so appropriately titled this thread "A thank you to the PC Guide forums", let me add my thank you too.......(Besides all the good stuff), there's always......

"Thank you all for putting up with me for almost a year now"
Boy, time sure flies when you're driving people crazy!

(Note: No direct response to my post necessary.....Please, carry on.)

(Edit) Reminded me of the "egg on heatsink thread", and the "anyone for mini golf?"- Among others.....Don't worry, I have no intentions of posting links to those threads. :)
