Help!!! This is a strange way to do this, but my wife is 1000 miles away, and can't access the net BECAUSE when she installed MacAfee virus scan, she could no longer access the internet through her isp there. She "uninstalled" the virus protection, and so far is able to "connect"but with no e-mail or surfing capability.Has anyone else run into a problem with connecting after installing a virus scan program?Whatever I glean from reply's here,I will pass on by Ma Bell. Can't get hold of MacAfee till sometime tomorrow, and the isp is just as lost as she is?

Not being able to pull up web sites or get email is proably a DNS problem. Did you check the DNS IP addresses with your ISP?
Most Virus scanners will connect to the internet to update their defs the first time you install them. I have never heard of one changing any internet settings, but......
Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I am wondering if McAfee possibly set up a proxy that is preventing Internet access.
Has more than five days passed since installing and uninstalling McAfee? If not, it might be possible to correct the problem by restoring a Registry created before installing it.
It seems as though uninstalling McAfee properly is a common problem. Here is some info I found on Deja that might help if McAfee did not uninstall completely (it may be more "hands-on" than some might feel like attempting):
Summary: This document contains instructions for manually uninstalling
version 4 of VirusScan.
Complete Manual Removal of VirusScan 4.x
IMPORTANT: Before beginning to remove VirusScan 4.0.0 manually from your
computer make sure to backup the Registry. This will safeguard your
Windows 95 or Windows 98 installation. You can recover your Windows 95
or Windows 98 configuration by restoring the backup if something goes
wrong.
How to Backup the Registry
Click on Start. The Start menu will appear.
Click on Run from the Start menu.
Type REGEDIT in the Open field.
Click the OK button. The Registry Editor window will appear.
Click on Registry on the menu bar.
Click on Export Registry File.
In the File Name field type "backup"
In the Save In field be sure that the desktop is selected (if it is not,
click on the pull down menu and select 'desktop.')
Select All in the Export range box.
Click on the Save button.
You now have a backup of your Registry saved as "backup" on your
desktop.
NOTE: If you need to restore the Registry you can double click on the
"backup" file you created and it will be restored. However, after
finishing your editing and testing to be sure all is running properly
you will want to delete the "backup" file so that no mistakes are made
and the old registry is restored.
