#1.does it need defraging or??
#2.What is create a volume lable (Drive C)
could this have something to do w/running my norton anti.V or w/physical disk itself or a driver?? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

The First place I would look is at the bios and the drivers for that controller card.
Sounds like the drive is running at ata33 or 66 and not at ata100

A Volume label is nothing more than a Name you give the drive.
It has nothing to do with performance .

Did you get a CD with the motherboard? If so, did you install any driver software from it?

Have you used the System Performance Tab? Start, Control panel, System.

Under File System, it helps a bit to designate your system as a network server. Might something have put you into DOS compatibility mode? System performance will tell you if it happened.

Don’t take this wrong.
BUT did you install the correct ribbon cable for the new drive?

The old 40 pin/wire cable does not support ata100

In that case it may be time to find a new benchmark program.
Check out Pcmag or any of the other freeware sites for something that may give you another reading or even a better one.

SiSoft Sandra is a good system util.

hehe..

your memory may have 'flagged' because you didn't shut down everything else when you ran the test?

I sometimes use their test to see the capabilities of computers I work on (just for a comparison basis) many of them can not even complete the test prior to me working on them.. (some not even after)

my old DELL celeron used to score around 100- 110.

my athlon 800 gets around 400.. I think many problems are peoples onboard video, not being able to complete the test patterns.

in any event, they return somewhat steady (if disputed) results.

si_ssoft_sandra for winME can be had here (http://www.tucows.com/winme/preview/169132.html)

but I believe that all of them will work with winME.
