I use them to search for deals and then usually call the company to actually book the flight. I just got tickets to New Orleans next month that way. About $210 round trip from Minnesota...

We've used Hotwire twice now for trips my husband made to Texas. The first time, they sent the airline tickets to his shop..the second time I think there wasn't time to do that, and the guy met him at the airport with the tickets. Both times we bought the airline tickets, and arranged for car rentals, through Hotwire..and went fine both times..no problems. You can't change your mind, though. We arranged tickets for a friend who can't get online, and his son used the ticket to go one way, but then his mom drove him back..and there was only a 24 hour window (I think) on cancelling/rescheduling the ticket, so our friend lost the return ticket price.

Lucias,
The best place to actually buy the ticket on line is from the airline itself. we travel alot and after using the services to track times and routes and prices,we go back to that airline site and buy the ticket. the reason being that sometimes the price will drop on the airline site before sites like expedia gets them.
Either way it is much cheaper to buy on line than from an agent or even at the airport.

I've used Yahoo Travel and Travelocity as well as direct to the airlines online and have not had a problem. It's best to scan them all for reasons Mark has mentioned. Also, if you can be flexible with your flight times/routes you can save alot of money using priceline.com
