My Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop locks up and the only way to shut it down is to remove all power - the external power and the internal battery. What could cause this?

Could be heat related. What's the weather like in your location? Some of these laptops have a real hard time in hotter climates. Also, check the fan unit ont he CPu and ensure that it is running. Feel the case to seek out hot areas that may being of concern, like the CPU and hard drive. If these areas are to hot, then something is either malfunctioning, like a fan or they simply cannot keep cool in the current condidtions. I had to power down my unit the other day because of heat outside. Hope this helps some.
