After running a clean install of Mandrake 9 on an IBM system
( I say IBM because it is true blue pure IBM Box .. Old But Blue anyways )

Everything went as normal .. Including the hardware detect not being able to see and setup the ISA PnP sound on board. Or see the scroll mouse

I used hardrake to change the mouse over to a generic scroll mouse.

Sofar so good
Then I ran sndconfig to get the onboard sound working.
It found it and it even tested correctly
Then the problems started.

After the Redhat built sndconfig created the new control file and backed up the old one.
I did a reboot.
OUCH now the fun starts
After the reboot. NO Mouse. And the sound is listed as ttys

I was able to run Linuxconf
However it doesn’t have a way to change the mouse settings.
At least not that I could see.

During the install by request I only installed KDE gui.
In the hardware setup program key board navigation is all but worthless.(Mandrake Control Center )
ALT keys only allow you to open file, options,( display only) and Help.
NONE of the hardware segments will open unless your using a mouse.

The cure was easy .
Open a command shell and replace the new cfg file with the backup ( No sound card )
However when I ran sndconf again it did the same thing.
It set the Mouse to com1 not ps/2 and the sound to ttys

Maybe Mandrake should scrape the redhat build of sndconfig and compile a new version with support for modified cfg files.

After talking to MJC in the Chat last night.
It may not be all the fault of sndconf,

This system has a Crystal Audio chipset on the Mother Board
Not exactly standard for the industry
