hello everyone,
my name is dale. i have a proposition for you guys in regards to a project that i am starting. as you know, this world is full of kids that are not very financially stable at home and are missing out on a lot of learning abilities and educational advancement. so, i have taken on this little project to at least help a few kids that live in my area. what i am looking for, is people to donate various computer parts that are just sitting around the house. i have just an average job, nothing real big, so i can't afford to buy a bunch of parts to do this with. what i am going to do so my little project want be abused or taken advantage of, is i am going to contact the local school system here in my area, and talk to them and get information on who has needs and who don't have. then if a child does as he or she should do at school, such as, show up, not be late, behavior, and grades, then the school will give that information to me, and i will personally deliver a computer to the childs residence. this way, they will have to earn it. hopefully, by the end of the school next year, all of the children will have their very own computer. that will make these children very happy plus, they will have the chance to advance their education like the rest of the students. if you would like to help me with this, please email me at cozycats@comcast.net. maybe, between me and you guys, we will make a difference in these childrens lives. thanks for your time, and god bless. if you want or need any personal information from me, please feel free to ask via email. i understand that this world is full of scams, and it is hard to trust anyone anymore, i will be glad to talk with you via telephone to let you know how everything is going, and also, give you the name of the local schools that i am contacting. here is a list of what i need, which is basically any and everything. thanks again, and may the good lord bless you. DALE

cpu (processors)
motherboards
hard drives
video cards
modems
sound cards

and whole computers also.
like i said, just about anything you have that relates to a computer, i need. you can contact me by email for my mailing address.
thanks again everyone. have a good day.

This sounds like a worthy endeavor, but the particular focus of the forum you have posted this in is for hardware troubleshooting. I will move this to a more approprate forum.

A couple of suggestions:

1. Look around your area for programs that already do something like this for schools. In my area we have community access groups that work to get computer access to disadvantaged kids and adults.

2. If you contact large companies with a clear plan, a lot of them would love to give you a pile of computers rather than paying to recycle them. The company I work for just cleared out a whole bunch of old Compaqs and installed Dells. Apparently they donated the most useful computers to organizations in the area that will use them. You may need to form a small nonprofit to take full advantage of this.

3. Unless you are planning to install Linux, the operating system is likely to be the most difficult thing to get as a donation. Not many people give away Windoze when they give away their system.

Good luck,

personally, there are a lot of ORGs doing this already, legitimatly. If you have particular Kids in mind, check these out instead. as far as sending you free computer parts goes..... yea right.
While we are on the subject, i could use some free stuff and I'll Even pay the shipping, particularly, PII 450's and up, 6.4gb hdds and up. LOL!

Dont get me wrong, if you are sincere, it is a noble suggestion. However there really are a lot of large organizations doing this and if you are concerned for someone in particular, you best bet it to put them with these guys.
