I just bought :

40gb exator HDD
Geforce 2 mx400
AMD Duron 1.3 ghz
authentic AMD m/b with on board sound

I connected everthing in correctly and i turned it on i installed win 98SE becuase my motherboard isnt compatible with XP

i put my graphic drivers in and i installed the sound drivers but...

When I turned on my pc it wouldnt load windoews it came on then crashed.

I turned it on again and it asked for the win98se disk i put it in and then it crashed i dot know what to do??? :( it driving my mad!!:mad: and I feel like taking my crossbow and putting a crossbow bolt sdtraight through the damthing!! please help me!!!!!

Does the motherboard have a VIA chipset? If so, did you load the 4 in 1 drivers? Have you checked the BIOS settings to make sure they're not set too aggressively? (memory timing, memory shadowing, caching, etc.)

You can try loading the fail-safe defaults and see what happens. Do you have the BIOS set to assign an IRQ for VGA? That's important...and there is a possibility, if you have a VIA mobo, that you may need to try a different video card...

I've had nothing but trouble with VIA mobos and nVidia vid cards...see if you can borrow an ATI vid card to test the system...

Will the system boot in safe mode?

if so. boot into safemode,
Uninstall the drivers in order of install.
Remove ONE set of drivers at a time.
Reboot and boot into windows.
If it still has the problem.
Reboot into safe and remove the other driver.

You may find out that the nVidia drivers are too new.
Step back a version or two..
